As now so always, down the centuries, across the planet, from end to end, billions and billions of men and women have lived all their lives, loving the Prophet (Pbuh) and trying to follow in his footsteps, as no one else has been so loved and followed. They have lived and died, believed and acted, married and raised families, worshipped and ruled, made war and peace, even eaten and dressed, walked and slept, just as he did or taught them to do.
Indeed, never in history has a man influenced mankind, even beyond his death, so deeply and so pervasively as he has. He brings light and peace to countless hearts and lives. Muslims love him more dearly than their own selves. In him they find their greatest source of inspiration and guidance. He is the ultimate norm and the perfect example for them. Faith in Allah and His Messenger is their mainstay and Allah is their chief source of support and comfort in all personal vicissitudes and tribulations. To him they also look to lead them through social and political turmoil. He has always inspired them to greater and greater heights of spiritual and moral upliftment and civilizational achievements. And still does.
In short, Muslims believe that through him, a human like themselves, God has spoken to them, and guided him to live amongst them, setting an example and a model for all times to come. Even today he motivates and induces whole populations to yearn and strive to shape their private lives, politics and policies according to Allah's teachings.

WHO IS ALLAH?
First of all, it is important to note that "ALLAH" is the same word that Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews use for God. If you pick up an Arabic Bible, you will see the word "ALLAH" being used where "God" is used in English. This is because "ALLAH" is the only word in the Arabic language equivalent to the English word "God".
Additionally, the word "ALLAH" CANNOT be made plural or given a gender, which goes hand in hand with the Islamic concept of God. If we were to use the name God, it can be made into plurals and given gender, i.e. god's, goddess, etc.

The Aramaic word "El", which is the word for God in the Language that Jesus (pbuh) used and spoke, is certainly more similar in sound to the word "ALLAH" than the English word "God". This also holds true for the various Hebrew words for God, which are "El" and "Elah", and the plural form "Elohim". The reason for these similarities is that Aramaic, Hebrew and Arabic are all Semitic languages (Sister Languages), with common origins.
Translating the Bible into English, the Hebrew word "El" is translated variously as "God", "god" and "angel"! This imprecise language allows different translators, based on their preconceived notions, to translate the word to fit their own views. The Arabic Word "ALLAH" on the other hand presents no such difficulty, since it is only used for The Almighty God alone.
The Arabic word "ALLAH" also contains a deep religious message due to its root meaning and origin. This is because it stems from the Arabic verb ta'allaha (or alaha), which means "to be worshipped". Thus in Arabic, the word "ALLAH" means "The One who deserves all worship". This, in a nutshell, is the Pure Monotheistic (one) message of Islam.

Hafsah reported, “There are five things that the Messenger (saws) never abandoned: fasting the day of ‘Ashurah, fasting the [first] 10 [days of Dhul-Hijjah], fasting 3 days of every month and praying two rak’aah before the dawn prayer.” [Related by Ahmad and an-Nasa’i]
Abu Hurairah relates that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said, “There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijja. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e., Lailatul Qadr].” [Related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and al-Baihaqi]
The Prophet (SAWS) direct Muslims to recite a lot of Tasbeeh (“Subhan-Allah”), Tahmeed (“Al-hamdu Lillaah”) and Takbeer (“Allaahu akbar”) during this time. Hazrat Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (R.A) reported that the Prophet (SAWS) said:
“There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel (“La ilaaha ill-Allah”), Takbeer and Tahmeed.” (Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh).
Those Muslims who are not attending hajj this year should fast on the day of Arafah because it is highly recommended and it is confirmed Sunnah for those who are not able to attend Hajj. Abu Qatadah (R.A) narrated that that the Prophet Mohammed Peace be upon was asked about fasting on the day of ‘Arafah and he said:
“It expiates for the past and coming years.” Narrated by Muslim (1162).

Ibn Qudaamah (RTA) said in al-Mughni (4/443),:
“It is a great and noble day, and a blessed festival which is of great virtue. It is narrated in saheeh reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that fasting it is expiation for two years.”
When Sheikh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (RTA) was askeda about the ruling of fasting on day of Arfah for non-pilgrims and pilgrims? He replied:
“Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah for non-pilgrims is a confirmed Sunnah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of ‘Arafah and he said: “I ask Allah that it may expiate for (the sins of) the year that comes before it and the year that comes after it.” According to another report he said: “It expiates for the past and coming years.”

As for the pilgrim, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the day of ‘Arafah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not fast on the day of ‘Arafah during the Farewell Pilgrimage. In Saheeh al-Bukhaari it is narrated from Maymoonah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the people were not sure whether the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was fasting on the day of ‘Arafah, so she sent him some milk when he was standing in ‘Arafah, and he drank it whilst the people were looking on. End quote.

So, as Muslims we should welcome the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah with the same fervor and enthusiasm as we welcome the last ten days of Ramadan or any other blessed days in Islam. Lets make the most of it.

sAllah Subhan Wa Taala gives us a great many opportunities through out the year to get more and more blessings from Him. Most of Muslims know about the blessings of last 10 days (and nights) but not everyone is aware of the fact that the first ten days of last month of the Islamic month, Dhul Hijjah, are equally packed with blessings. Allah SWT says in Quran:
“By the dawn; By the 10 nights” [al-Fajr 89:1-2].
According to most of Islamic scholars these ayahs refer to the first ten nights of Dhul-Hijjah. This opinion is also validated by Ibn Katheer as he states:
“This is the correct opinion.” [Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/413]
Ibn e Abbass narrates the Hadiths of Rasul Allah S.A.W as:
“No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these days [meaning the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah].”

Quran will open for you the doors of wisdom and happiness in your life. This will ultimately lead to guidance and success in this life and the Hereafter. Establish a beautiful new relationship with the book of Allah starting in these ten days of Dhul-Hijja.
Sunnah of these ten days have mostly been forgotten, especially during the first few days. So say it in the masjid, in your home, on the street and every place where it is permitted to remember Allah. Revive the Sunnah that have been virtually forgotten and earn great rewards for doing so. The Prophet S.A.W said:
“Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.” (Tirmidhi- Hasan)

The significance of Tasbeeh and Allah’s Dhikr is more pronounced in first ten days of this month. Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijja, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer when they heard them. (Bukhari)
Companions of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W have clearly learned this virtuous deed from messenger of Allah ta’ALLAH, so the it can be said that Dhikr gains a paramount position in these days.
Prayers at night
We should seize this opportunity and beg Him for His Divine Generosity and Mercy, for the reward of bigger than ever. Almighty calls out to His servants in the latter part of the night:
“Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?” (Bukhaari, Muslim)
