And Quran says in Sura Albaqara

“O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely and perfectly and do not follow the footsteps of satan. Indeed he is to you a clear enemy.” (Quran, 2:208)

So Islam and Muslims can only be the same if a follower of Islam follows his or her religion and enters into Islam completely. Following the basics is obligatory and being practical in following the Quran and Sunna is also equally important to be known as a true believer. In Chapter 7 Al Hashr, Allah Says,

“And what the Messenger gives you, so take it, and what he prohibits you, so refrain from it. And be in awe of Allah. Surely Allah is Stern of Punishment.” (Al-hashr 7)

So Islam is not only saying a few words, offering Salat five times, Paying Zakat, offering Hajj and fasting for one month. These are the basics and obligatory for Muslims but at the same time, these are the reminders and practices that the believers are sent into this world with the responsibilities and they are the representatives of Allah SAW and the preachers of His religion. As mentioned in Ale Imran,

“You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.” (Ale Imran 3:110)

Prophets SAW life was exemplary for us and in every walk of life he is the epitome of perfection for the Muslims.

Muslim is only known as a true Muslim if he or she follows Islam in every sense and he or she is not only a Muslim because of his looks and appearances. What makes a Muslim a true one and the yardstick with which he can be regarded as a true follower of Islam is his practicality, his true submission to the will of Allah and strong adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW.

How and why Islam and Muslims the same and why not?

It is the matter of practicality, without being practical Muslim the mentioned terms are not the same as these are not the meanings of the terms that matter but the attitude towards the basic teachings is all that is important.

Quranic View of the Terms Islam and Muslim
Islam Arabic ٱلْإِسْلَام‎ is an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion that teaches there is only one God (Allah) and Prophet Muhammad SAW is the last messenger of Allah SAW.

Islam is a word with multiple connotations. It is derived from an Arabic stem that carries the meanings of peace and submission (to Allah the Exalted and Almighty).

Islam means submission of one’s will to Allah SWT. Does it start from saying simply لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ‎  (lā ʾilāha ʾillā llāhu muḥammadun rasūlu llāhi) There is no god but God; Muhammad is the messenger of God.

Now, let us take a brief overview of the word “Muslim”. The beliefs of Muslims include:

God (Arabic: الله‎ Allah) is eternal.
God is transcendent and absolutely one (Tawhid)
God is incomparable
God is self-sustaining and neither begets nor was begotten.
Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith.
And also Islam has been revealed before through many prophets including Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, and Jesus.
These previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time.
The Quran is the final unaltered revelation from God (Final Testament)
From the point of view of a layman, it is true and yes it is obligatory to say these basic words when someone enters into Islam. It is also obligatory for the believers to say it and it is an Afzal zikr( Cardinal commemoration) in Islam. But it is more important to accept it from the core of one’s heart.

These basic words are the main pillars are the very core of Islam and it has two parts The first part says, As

The following verse of the Holy Quran asserts:

“Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with him, and forgives what is besides that to whomsoever He pleases, and whoever associates anything with Allah, he devises indeed a great sin.” (Surah an-Nisā’ 4:48)

The second part says

“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Apostle of Allah and the Last of the prophets, and Allah is cognizant of all things.” (Quran, 33:40)

Below mentioned are a few things or ways that you can do in the post-Ramadan life to maintain the good habits you picked during Ramadan:

First of all, make Dua that Allah helps you not only keep the good habit but that He (SWT) accepts it and makes it a way for you to grow in closeness to Him.
Muslims spend more time praying during Ramadan than at other times of the year. Regular prayer is the single-best way to continually renew a relationship with Almighty Allah and keep consciousness of Him at all times. We should keep this habit of offering prayer even after Ramadan so that we can get closer to Allah (SWT) and attain His countless blessings.
Intention or Niyyah is the key to Allah’s acceptance of our good deeds. We should develop a good habit to impress Allah Almighty not others if we do so then we can attain His mercy and blessings.
Evaluating ourselves, our intentions, words and actions, every night is a very good and easy way to maintain good habits in our lives.
Try to keep up the practice of fasting even after Ramadan. It was the favourite custom of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to observe fast on some specific days and many Hadiths authenticate the significance of keeping fast on Monday and Thursday. It is narrated in hadith: “The Prophet of Allah used to fast on Monday and Thursday. When he was asked about it, he said: The works of the servants (of Allah) are presented (to Allah) on Monday and Thursday.” (Sunan Abi Dawood)
Giving donations or charity to the needy people is not specific to the month of Ramadan that too when Allah has asked His people to give alms to the needy and deserved ones. Donate for mosque construction, feed a poor or the least you can do is to teach someone something good to keep up with the pace of Zakat even after the blessed month of Ramadan.
May Allah (SWT) accept our every little effort and count it in our balance of good deeds. Let’s make dua that we will maintain the momentum of Ramadan with much more positive energy and honest intentions.

Ways to Maintain Ramadan Momentum-The Post Ramadan Life
The blessed month of Ramadan has been ended and we all celebrated the Eid al-Fitr the gift from Almighty Allah at the end of Ramadan. We kept ourselves away from food and drinks from dawn to dusk, successfully prayed five times a day in Mosque, most of us also completed the recitation of Quran during the blessed month of Ramadan, we stood up in Tarawih prayers and Qayam-ul-Layl by the grace of Allah Almighty especially in the last 10 days of Ramadan, spent money in zakat and Sadaqat (charity) to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT).

The month of Ramadan proves for us that we have great potentials to do much of worship and continue elevating and purifying our souls after Ramadan. The heightened feeling of Ramadan’s holiness is to continue the duty of caring for family and relatives (Haqooq ul Ibaad) by reaching to all in times of need, never forgo the zeal of spirituality, thirst for donating alms and invigoration of the connection that has been built between you and Allah. Even Allah has endorsed the one who maintains harmony even in their minor deeds as narrated in Hadith: “And the most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are continuous, even if they are few.”(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

The Wonders it did for all Humanity
Islam provided guidance and admonition to individuals in general and to societies as a whole
It gave guidance for human spiritual life and helped him strengthening their ties to God.
Islam originated from Makkah and it bore fruits for Iraq, Persia, India, Austria, Northern Africa, crossing Gibraltar and reached to the distant land of the Iberian peninsula.
With the advent of the Islam world experienced the production of the books, it founded libraries and intellectual centers in the world.
Great architecture and the studies of different subjects of science came into being due to the Muslims and by the Grace of Quran, the master key.
Theological colleges, calligraphy, and textiles were also introduced by Muslims.
“During the Middle Ages, when Europe had sunk to the lowest depths of barbarity, the Arabs excelled all other nations of the earth in sciences and crafts, mathematics, civilization, governance, and other arts. The Educator and Prime Mover of the tribes of the Arabian Peninsula, and the Founder of a civilization of human perfections among those contending clans, was an illiterate Man, Muhammad.” Abdu’l – Baha

By the end of today’s discussion, the state of Islam which originated from mecca and Medina inspired the whole world and it is still inspiring the whole lot.
In a narration, reported by Thawbān (RA), “Indeed, Allah gathered up the earth for me so that I saw its east and its west; and indeed the dominion of my nation will reach what was gathered up for me from it.”

Impact of Islam
Islam is the complete version of what Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus presented to the world by the grace of Allah Almighty. Islam reshaped religion, politics and the whole society in a new and perfect form.

Islam uprooted the injustice, poverty, killings of innocents especially women. It discussed and defined the rights of the men and women in society. And Islam ordered its followers to submit their will to only one God and worship none other than Him and ordered to follow the Prophet Muhammad SAW as the last prophet to mankind.

As discussed Islam focused especially on basic human rights and especially the rights of the women, who were killed before Islam without any reason.

“When the sun shall be darkened, when the stars shall be thrown down, when the mountains shall be set moving, when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, when the savage beasts shall be mustered, when the seas shall be set boiling, when the souls shall be coupled, when the buried infant (mawudatu) shall be asked for what sin she was slain, when the scrolls shall be unrolled…”

Islam uprooted fornication, adultery, and theft from society, and it turned the society into a peaceful society that was otherwise into wrongdoings and was following the ignorant path.

To cut the long story short, the state of Islam and the state of Madina impacted human life in a brilliant way that was matchless and still unopposed at out time.

Commonly Islam is considered simply a religion but it is not only a religion. It surely encompasses every aspect of human life. Let it be politics, economics, legislation, science, health sociology and all other fields of human beings. Islam did not preach discrimination on the basis of color, race or class but according to the Quran as is mentioned in Sura Hujrat,

O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware. (Sura Hujrat 49:13)

Islam is very different from what is socialism and capitalism because Islam put the same emphasis on individual as well as the society in general. Islam talks about equality. The capitalist theory focuses on private ownership, on the other hand, Socialist theory talks for state control, both are facing inherent and systematic flaws.

Islam gives solutions to humanity on each end and the world has seen the society prevalent at the times of Muhammad SAW. The world has seen the rule of Abu Bakar RA, Umr ibn e Khattab RA, Usman e Ghani RA, Abu Bakr RA. Islam had a great impact on the world as a whole.

The Islamic State of Medina
Human beings from the start of their time tried to develop a system that could help them make their worldly life a better place to live in. For that, it kept on trying to shape and reshape different sets of rules and it also tried to constitute different institutions. A state and a well-developed state was one of the basic institutions he could think of.

The state is not only to provide basic necessities of life but one of its main roles is to protect its people and to provide justice and peace at any cost.

State and Islam
Islam as a religion put great emphasis on the need for a state that is very vital. And the root of its ideology is the oneness of God. All the prophets of Allah tried to help their followers to submit their will to one God, as in Surah- Al A’raf it is mentioned,

And to ‘Aad , We sent forth their brother Hud. He said: ‘0 my people! Serve Allah; you have no other god than Him. Will you, then, not avoid evil?’ (Quran, 7:65)

The importance of state can be better assessed from the mentioned Dua taught to Muhammad SAW by Allah SWT,

And Say, “My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.” (Bani Israel:80)

The authority itself in Islam, not the main purpose but it is told in the Quran about those who reigned at the time of Muhammad SAW, the Quran says,

“Those who if we give them power in the land, establish worship and pay the poor-due and enjoin kindness and forbid iniquity. And Allah’s is the sequel of events.” (Quran, 22:40)

State before Islam was just a part of one’s personal life but at the time of Muhammad SAW the concept given was completely changed. According to the teachings of Islam religion is not only a small and personal part of one’s life but a complete code of life in every sense. It dominates and should lead an individual’s life and also it should be the driving force for the whole of society.
