 Principles and Importance of Quran

Revelation of Quran

The word Quran means recitation and its verses are recited by Muslims throughout the world. The Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad in Ramadan, the holy month of the Islamic calendar, in the year 610CE. The Quran is Muslims' holy book, which is revealed to Prophet Muhammad in different steps over 23 years. Muslims find Quranic insights as the divine word of God, meant to correct any mistakes in past holy books, including the Old and New Testaments.

What does Quran means?

The Quran is Allah's text, which is penned in Arabic. In Arabic the expression "Quran" refers recitation. All Muslim people, regardless of the country language must recite the Quran in Arabic.

How many chapters and verses Quran consists?

The Quran comprises of one hundred and fourteen chapters consisting six thousand verses, mainly disclosed to Muhammad over a twenty-two year period. Such chapters, called surahs, are organized according to their length, ranging from longest to about twenty-two pages of Arabic text of chapter 2, to the shortest one line surah.

Reciting Quran in prayers

Muslims have several various forms of rituals of prayer, which they perform daily. Prayer is of great importance to them in their lifestyle and they use the Quran for many of their prayers. Five times a day, they do prayer rituals called Salah. At dawn, at midday, at afternoon, at sunset and at evening, they pray. These five prayers, in the order of which they are performed, are called salat al-subh, salat al-zuhr, salat al-asr, salat al-maghrib, and salat al-isha. Muslims also follow the Quran as a guide to do their worship services.

 What is Quran?

The Qur'an ("Qor-Ann") is a Message from Allah (swt) to humanity. It was transmitted to us in a chain starting from the Almighty Himself (swt) to the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (saw). This message was given to the Prophet (saw) in pieces over a period spanning approximately 23 years (610 CE to 632 CE). The Prophet (saw) was 40 years old when the Qur'an began to be revealed to him, and he was 63 when the revelation was completed. The language of the original message was Arabic, but it has been translated into many other languages.

The Qur'an is one of the two sources which form the basis of Islam. The second source is the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw). What makes the Qur'an different from the Sunnah is primarily its form. Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur'an is literally the Word of Allah (swt), whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but the wording and actions are the Prophet's (saw). The Qur'an has not been expressed using any human's words. Its wording is letter for letter fixed by no one but Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the final Messenger of Allah to humanity, and therefore the Qur'an is the last Message which Allah (swt) has sent to us. Its predecessors such as the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels have all been superseded. It is an obligation - and blessing - for all who hear of the Qur'an and Islam to investigate it and evaluate it for themselves. Allah (swt) has guaranteed that He will protect the Qur'an from human tampering, and today's readers can find exact copies of it all over the world. The Qur'an of today is the same as the Qur'an revealed to Muhammad (saw) 1400 years ago.

To learn the Quran, one should start from the basic Noorani Qaida.

Some Modern Ways of Learning the Holy Quran
The basic purpose of our life is to worship Allah Almighty. The best way of worship is to offer Salah and recite Quran daily for the sake of Allah Almighty. For the guidance of mankind, Allah Almighty revealed the Holy Quran on our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).  Holy Quran is the last divine book, the majesty of the verses of Glorious Quran is mentioned in Holy Quran itself in these words: Say: ‘If the mankind and the jinn were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another’” (Quran, 17:88)

To reflect upon the verses of Allah is a form of worship. Quran is the source through which one can get close to Allah Almighty. In order to get benefits and blessings from its deep meaning and its fundamentals, it is the foremost duty of every Muslim, be it a child, a man or woman to learn it with proper understanding. Quran is in the Arabic language for its proper understanding and tries to learn Arabic. It is not difficult it’s like learning any other language. Arabic is a beautiful language. Try to learn it, read the Quran and follow its translation.

Some people ask if someone cannot understand the meaning of verses of the Quran would he/she still be rewarded. Its answer is yes, the recitation of the Quran even without understanding the meaning is also rewarded and will be counted as a good deed. “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward, and this reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that ‘Alif, Laam, Meem’ (a combination of letters frequently mentioned in the Holy Quran) is a letter, rather I am saying that ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Laam’ is a letter and ‘Meem’ is a letter.”(Tirmidhi)

It shows that how much Rasulullah ﷺ care about His people that HE (PBUH) gave the message to all to get ready for the time of trials and tribulations in the future.

major signs of fitnah

Some of the major signs (which seem likely as being fulfilled in the present time) that the Holy Prophet ﷺ told His companions about the age of Fitnah are described below:

Constructing Buildings Higher Than Mountains

Not only the West have made the sky high buildings over the last few decades but the Muslim world have also joined them hands in hands to show their superiority in wealth and property. These are the signs that Rasulullah ﷺ talked about:

“Till the People Compete with one another in Constructing High Buildings!” (Bukhari)

In the above stated Hadith, Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ has indicated about the present era of nations and common people, as they are striving for dominance over others by making far above the ground constructions and buildings? It has been referred as the period of trial by the Holy Prophet ﷺ which means that it is the time approaching Qayamah.

Music Being a Part of Life

The Messenger ﷺ of Allah said:

“Music and Musical Instruments will be found in every home.” (Tirmidhi)

The age of Fitnah also includes the use of music and musical instruments in every house, which is very common nowadays as Muslims all over the world are indulged in listening to this satanic sound.

Division of Muslims Into Different Sects

The Holy Prophet ﷺ referred to the moment in time of checks by saying:

“Trials will Divide the Nation (in to sects) and Safety will be in adhering to the AlJamaa’ah.” (Ibn Maajah)

The above mentioned Hadith indicates towards the present era in which Muslims all over the world are divided on the basis of so called religious sects by forgetting the Message of Allah SWT and His Apostle ﷺ.

Earthquakes Becoming Common

Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ is reported to have said:

“Sinking (swallowing) of the Earth, frequent Earth Quakes, flying of Stones with Severe Winds. (Tirmidhi)

It means that the current time is the indeed the period of Fitnah for Muslims that Rasulullah ﷺ referred to, as earthquakes, tornadoes and floods have become very common now.

Disputing over Small Matters

The Apostle ﷺ of Allah SWT said:

“Impact of the Tongue is more Harsh than the Impact of the Sword (when people dispute over petty issues).” [Abu Dawood]

It has become almost common routine nowadays that people start quarreling over pity stuff mainly by ill use of tongue, which ultimately leads to fighting physically. This has been regarded by Rasulullah ﷺ as the time of tribulations for Muslims as they are required to make peace among one another.

Men Disobeying Their Parents

The Holy Prophet ﷺ has been narrated to have said:

“When Man obeys his Wife but disobeys his Mother.” (Tirmidhi)

The previously stated Hadith refers to the present time of Fitnah, as disobedience of parents has become a common thing.

Raising of Voices in Mosques

The Messenger ﷺ of God said:

“When Voices are raised in the Masjids.” (Tirmidhi)

The above mentioned Hadith signals towards the time of Fitnah, when Muslims will no longer care talking about their own matters in high pitched voices and this is what is happening now.

In short, these are some of the prevailing signs of the age of Fitnah (Trial) for Muslims that can be observed in the present day and age. May Allah SWT give us all the true Guidance to become successful through these times of testing and tribulations! Aameen!

7 Prevailing Signs Of The Age Of Fitnah (Trial)
The reason behind appointment of Prophets among nations over the course of earth history by Allah SWT had always been for accomplishment of essential goals. These include believing in One God, obeying all of His Messengers and taking life in this world as temporary and prepare for the Judgment Day. The Holy Prophet ﷺ of the Almighty Lord was sent to be a Role Model in all matters for entire mankind and till the end of the world.

signs
“And, We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know.” [Quran, 34: 28]

It means that Rasulullah ﷺ was directed to give good news to the believers in the shape of attaining Jannah (Paradise) and bad news to those who disobey commandment of the Creator of the universe in the form of entering Hell. Although the exact instant of occurrence of Qayamah (the Last Hour) is only known to Allah SWT but it was important for the Apostle ﷺ of God to let His Ummah (Followers) know about the time of great despair and misery in terms of avoidance of Allah`s Instructions in era near to prevailing of the Last Day.

“As Doomsday approaches, fitnah will increase. It will resemble the increase in darkness as night begins. Many who leave their homes in the morning as Muslims will return home as disbelievers in the evening. While they are Muslims in the evening, they will lose their faith during the night. During such times, staying at home is better than being involved in fitnah. Those who stay aloof are better than those who attack and lead in front. On that day, break your arrows! Leave your weapons! Address everybody with a smiling face and sweet words!”  (Abu Dawood)

In the above mentioned Saying of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ, He has clearly referred to the ending time of life on planet earth as “Fitnah”, whose literal meaning in Arabic Language is that of “a state of Trial or Unrest”. It means that it is the point in time which is full of tests and examinations for the believers whether they remain resolute in these strict times of apparently looking desolation or they join the enemies of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ in fighting against the Religion of Peace.

Narrated by Usama bin Zaid (R.A):

Once the Prophet PBUH stood over one of the high buildings of Medina and then said (to the people), “Do you see what I see?” They said, “No.” He said, “I see afflictions falling among your houses as rain drops fall.”

Akhlaq or ethics is fundamental to the make-up of mankind; it is not just for making faith. Prophet (SAW) said in his hadith about good character in these words: “There is nothing weightier in the scales than good morals and manners.” (Abu Dawood). He used to teach people about good Akhlaq and moral values and also said about it in one of his hadith: “Truly, the believer can reach, by means of good manners and morals, the degree of one who constantly fasts.” (Abu Dawood)

Indeed, the Prophet (SAW) laid down for this humankind the framework of perfect human morality. The Allah Almighty said of him, “Truly, your character is Excellent.” (Quran, Al Qalam: 5). Prophet (SAW) came as the perfect embodiment of what it means to be moral and mannerly for all mankind not just for Muslims.

Being Muslim it is our duty to follow the Sunnah of Prophet (SAW) and try to show good Akhlaq towards all people no matter one is Muslim or non-Muslim. Good Akhlaq also includes the sincerity, honesty, and truthfulness in doing the acts of worship like Charity, Salah, Quran recitation, and Tawbah. We should approach Allah (SWT) with beautiful etiquettes for Allah loves the one with good conduct. One’s good character and good Akhlaq are the reasons that take him closer to Allah Almighty which ultimately takes him closer to Jannah. May Allah Almighty give us knowledge and strength to keep good relation with all mankind! Ameen
