IBN KATHIR WRITES IN HIS COMMENTARY ON SURAH AL-KAHF:

Al-Bara reported: A man recited Surah al-Kahf and there was an animal in the house which began acting in a nervous manner. He looked and saw a fog or cloud overhead. He mentioned this to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Prophet said:

Continue reciting. Verily, that was tranquility which came down for the recitation of the Quran.

The man who recited it was Usaid ibn Al-Hudayr.

Abu Ad-Darda reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surat al-Kahf will be protected from the False Messiah.

This was also recorded by Muslim, Abu Dawud, An-Nasa’i and At-Tirmidhi. According to the version recorded by At-Tirmidhi:

Whoever memorizes three verses from the beginning of Surat al-Kahf.

At-Tirmidhi said it is “good and authentic” (hasan sahih).

In his Mustadrak, Al-Hakim recorded from Abu Sa’eed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on the day of Friday will have a light for him between this Friday and the next.

Al-Hakim said, “This tradition has an authentic chain of narration, but Al-Bukhari and Muslim did not record it.”
